The Tree's Journey

From a fallen tree
to the heart of your home.

Most urban trees end their lives as mulch or firewood. We give them a second one. Every slab in our shop carries a Southern Ontario story — here is how it gets told.

Chapter 01

The Fall

A storm, a build, an aging giant. When an urban tree comes down in Hamilton, Burlington, or anywhere across Southern Ontario, local arborists and homeowners call us. We recover the log before it becomes mulch — every slab we sell or build with starts here, salvaged and local.

Chapter 02

The Mill

Back at our Avondale Street shop, each log is milled into slabs, stacked with venting spacers, and left to air dry season after season. Slow drying relieves the stress inside the wood — patience is the first ingredient in furniture that never warps.

Chapter 03

The Kiln

Every slab finishes in our in-house vacuum kiln, brought down to a stable 6–8% moisture content. Then it's flattened on our 56" surfacing sled and wide-belt sanded — ready to live indoors for the next hundred years.

Chapter 04

The Build

The tree becomes a kitchen, a built-in wall, a dining table that hosts thirty Christmases. Designed and built by woodworkers — not assembled from a catalogue. And if you'd rather build it yourself, the same salvaged wood is yours to buy.

Customer Reviews

"We hired Jay & his team to help us finish our living room with built-in cabinets & shelves. They did an amazing job and we couldn't be happier. This project also included a mantel and a built in desk. They were able to execute all of our design ideas, and the finished product came out better than we could have hoped for!"

"Custom woodwork is detailed, difficult and at times complicated. Jay and his team did an awesome job on a custom walnut dining table for us. Highly recommend them on both quality of work and price."

"I found Crown Point by happy accident and have never looked back. I am a local artist and they have always been a great source of knowledge. I love their shop. To me, being able to see the lumber, touch them is very inspiring. Each piece is one of a kind. Crown Point is my go to place and I have sent people there knowing they will be well looked after."

Everything people ask about our salvaged local lumber, vacuum kiln drying, and custom builds.

All of our live edge slabs are salvaged and locally sourced from Southern Ontario. We work with local arborists and homeowners to rescue urban trees — from Hamilton to the GTA and Niagara — that would otherwise end up as mulch or firewood. For dimensional lumber used in cabinetry, we order from mixed commercial sources.

Yes. Every slab we sell is salvaged, locally sourced, vacuum kiln-dried to 6–8% moisture, flattened, and wide-belt sanded — ready for your project. Walnut, white oak, maple, and ash are our mainstays, with butternut, cherry, and elm as they come through the shop. Visit us in Hamilton or browse what's currently available online.

Custom kitchens are our flagship, alongside built-in cabinetry, vanities, custom range hoods, and architectural millwork. On the furniture side we build solid hardwood dining tables, desks, bar and counter tops, and shelving. If it's made of wood with boxes and doors, we design and build it.

After milling, slabs air dry for as long as possible to relieve internal stress, then finish in our iDry vacuum kiln — typically about a week per inch of thickness — down to a stable 6–8% moisture content. Kiln drying, slab flattening (up to 56" wide x 12' long), and wide-belt sanding (up to 52" wide) are also available as services for your own lumber.
